When the opposition comes to power, it becomes deaf and blind
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest is not the unique or the first protest in the history of India led by youth. Earlier, during the Emergency, it was the JP Andolan; later, in 2013, it was India Against Corruption; and now, it is the CJP against paper leaks.
Peaceful protest is a right that the Constitution of India has given to its citizens in an implicit form under Article 19. Our forefathers knew how important freedom of speech was, as their voices were curtailed by the colonists.
At present, the government has misused many laws against its people for its own benefit. It bought the media and has been setting the narrative for the last decade. But now, things have gone too far. This time, paper leaks have affected not just one, but every section of society.
People who were earlier giving the government the benefit of the doubt have now started speaking against it. People should speak to power directly and firmly, as people in power are servants, not masters. All police forces are raised by taxpayer money, but they protect only the powerful. Nobody in their right mind ever thinks of the police as their protector. People even believe that they can handle a thief, but not the police.
The Capital’s Crackdown: July 20, 2026
On July 20, 2026, when the police started a lathi charge on unarmed students, they were just following orders. But who gave those orders? Many people without uniforms were beating the students without mercy. The policemen also knew that the protest was right and that it would help their own children as well.
Their orders to maintain the crowd turned into a lathi charge, which is also not new. Everyone in power always tries to subdue weaker people. In this case, the students were weak because they could not fight back against the lathi charge.
Accountability at the Top
The real question is: Who gave the police the order?
The person who controls the police in India is the Home Minister, and the Home Minister is controlled by the Prime Minister. It is right to say that the PM should have given permission to his subordinates to take rightful action as they saw fit for the situation.
Wasn’t the PM chosen because the earlier government was corrupt? Wasn’t Mr. Modi given a full majority because he would listen to the citizens? But with time, people have realized that it is easy to speak from the opposition, as we have not heard a single word from the PM over the protest, except for a tweet. (The tweet mentioned the formation of fast-track court. But our beloved PM doesn’t know the fire in Education Ministry has already destroyed the evidence)
The students were beaten by the police in the capital city of India, just a few kilometers away from the PM’s office and residence. Even the so-called Jan Netas of the ruling party are not coming to help students or even listen to them. The present government has given a verdict from the beginning: they are India. Whatever the government says is nationalist, but anyone who questions the government is anti-national.
Sad Reality: The Illusion of Change
The people who were chosen as a good alternative to the previous government have all the same characteristics as that previous government.

Every party becomes the Congress after a certain time
All the corrupt people whom the present government used to blame are now in their own party. The divide in the social fabric of India has increased manifold since 2014. This era will be marked as India before and after 2014.
People in 2014 thought they were choosing a better government, but in reality, we just replaced the people in power. The system runs just as it always did. Corruption in every department has increased. Earlier, people used to raise their voices, but now, many of us are afraid to do so.
It is true that many people behave like devotees of PM Modi, which is alright up to a limit. Earlier leaders used to fight for the people, but now things have changed, and people fight for their leader. The leader has everything—money as well as power—yet the narrative is set in a manner that portrays them as the victim.
A Systemic Deafness
The media of the present time, correctly called “Godi Media,” has lost its credibility. Since 2014, different sections of society have been targeted: farmers were called Khalistanis, JNU student protesters were called anti-national, and so on. Now, the paper leak has affected all factions of society unanimously.
In leaking exams, the government has applied a “Uniform Civil Code”—no paper has been left out from being leaked in the last decade. After seeing and observing everything, I felt very amused by how the same person, when reaching power, becomes blind and deaf.
All the ministers in the government protested in their own time against the previous government over the same issues, but it seems nothing matters to them anymore. Even the young parliamentarian Raghav Chadha, who was once our favorite leader, has lost his voice after joining the government. It is true that nothing may happen, as many andolans have not made a massive impact on the system, but the narrative of the government and the citizens of India will definitely change.
Conclusion: Awakening the Conscience
After this protest, we hope to think as Indian citizens first, rather than as people of a specific party, caste, or religion. The chair of power makes a person deaf, no matter who sits upon it. That is why Bhagat Singh said,
“Behro ko sunane ke liye dhamake ki zarurat hoti hai”
“It takes an explosion to make the deaf hear”
The CJP is that explosion which has created enough sound for the PM to tweet and people to gather. They are getting support from across India. Every revolution has been fought on the shoulders of the young guns
