It’s Okay To Not Be Okay
In Life- It’s Okay To Not Be Okay
In the era of social media when looking and showing good to others is more important than feeling good, people feel helpless when they face life reality as it is.
A trend of pretension is growing all over the world. People are happy only on their social media account. The harsh reality of the present time is that instead of living the moment we all are busy in capturing it.
Everyone is busy to show others their happiness and the moment they are enjoying. In reality, nobody is enjoying life or not living life.
Our generation is living in a double virtual world. First, the cyberspace and Second, in our own mind. Even though we live in the most comfortable times (as compared to earlier periods of human history). The number of suicide and depression cases are also increasing rapidly.
This shows that we are a victim of our own development and our ty. The more developed a nation becomes the number of physiatrists in society also increases. There is a direct relation between modern ty to the stress.
Where is the Problem?
The problem is of pretension. Everyone is pretending to be ‘ok’. We are ‘humans’ myriad number of emotions and thoughts rise daily inside us. How can we be okay all the time? For me, it is insanity.
Daily, I feel many emotions in me. Sometimes I am happy, sometimes angry, anxious, sad, jealous, and all the emotion that is there is observed by me.
What I am trying to say is that if I am sad than what is wrong in that to admit it. I want to clear the point here is that we don’t have to admit our emotions to others.
We have to admit it ourselves. It is because if you are able to face your reality as it is and you except it then nothing can harm you.
‘It’s okay to be not okay’ is a perfect line which you can use as a ‘Mantra’. First, we have to start accepting things and life as it is. Until or unless you are not accepting it, the feeling of inferiority complex will rise, which leads to fear.
Fear leads to Stress; Stress leads to ‘Modern Lifestyle Diseases’ like Depression, Diabetes, Hypertension, and others.
Acceptance is the First Stage
If you want to be accepted in society then you have to accept yourself as you are. Not what others want from you to be. Doesn’t matter if you are the CEO of a company or the janitor.
If you have stress then the quality of stress inside both of them will be the same. The reason for stress will be way different but both will have the same quality of the disease.
Due to social media, modern lifestyle, and education, we have pushed a majority of the population in a world where they have lost the touch of life inside them.
Everyone is busy to get approval from the outside world. Everybody wants to achieve success in a set pattern that is accepted in society. But what a large population has accepted doesn’t mean that is true.
For example, there was a time when 99% of population of the world believed that Earth is flat but it was not the reality.
To come out of any problem in your life, you have to face the problem as it is. Not what you thought about it. If you are sad then accept you are sad, that’s all.
If you are happy then accept it. Trust us, no human being can remain in one emotion 24*7. It is not possible. If you want to cry then cry, there is no shame in it. If you want to smile then smile, it takes nothing.
Observe Your Thoughts and Emotion
After accepting yourself, observe your thoughts carefully. Just observe it don’t react to them. You will see that every emotion has its origin and end. It takes courage to accept and observe your emotion.
If you are able to observe your emotion, the futility of your fear will be understood. Once you allow your mind to have any thoughts doesn’t matter it is a good thought or bad thought.
The only thing matter is you have to observe it, only. It might seem easy but it is one of the most difficult tasks to do. It is because we have a tendency to react. Once a thought comes we react.
Try to watch them continuously like a spectator watching a game from stands i.e. from a distance. Once you create the distance between you and your thoughts then peace and happiness come naturally.
Anecdotal Story
One day a student of Gautama Buddha asked him, what is the worth of my life? Gautama Buddha instead of providing a theoretical answer assigned him a task.
Buddha Said, “Take This Ruby and go to the market. Ask every person you encounter, the worth of Ruby. But don’t sell it to anybody”.
The Student went to the market. First, he encounters a vegetable vendor and asked him the worth of Ruby. The Vegetable vendor using his intellect said 100 Gold Coins.
Then the student went ahead and meet a general store owner. He asked him the same question, What is the worth of Ruby? The General Store owner answered 1000 Gold Coins.
The Student moves ahead in the market and saw a Jewelry Shop. He asked the price of Ruby to the Jeweler. The Jeweler saw Ruby and get surprised, he was not able to believe his eyes, because Ruby is not the ordinary stone.
The Jeweler first uses a Silk Cloth to clear the dust from the Ruby and then put it into the saucer of gold and clean it with water. Later, he assesses the Ruby and said the price of Ruby is 100K gold Coins.
The student went back to the Buddha and narrated the whole story to him then Buddha said to him, “The Ruby was the same but worth of ruby is different for different people. The assessment by the people about the Ruby shows their mindset and not the worth of Ruby.
It means, your worth can only be truly assessed by you only. Your worth totally depends on what you think of yourself”.
