Master Your Mindset: Why Changing Your Thinking Comes Before Changing Your Reality
Life challenges us at every turn, or perhaps it simply follows its natural course. Many things lie outside our control, requiring us to understand when to let go or accept reality as it is. Fighting nature brings no gain; our only true battle is against our inner thoughts and invisible ghosts.
Many people strive for a goal yet fall short. Even after pouring in every effort, success does not come easily, leading us to blame destiny and sink into disappointment. This reaction is entirely normal, and nobody should feel guilty for feeling what comes naturally. However, the true catch lies in how fast a person can bounce back from disappointment and move past that natural reaction.
Disappointment is a part of human psychology, but the only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is the amount of time they spend dwelling on sadness or repentance. Such a major psychological shift does not happen automatically through a book or an article. The only way to alter a natural reaction to life’s situations—or break the habit of dwelling in disappointment—is to start by changing your inner thoughts.
Before trying to change anything else, change your thinking. Mental power is what you need to achieve anything in this world, and mental health stands as the foremost prerequisite to living a healthy life. Whether life feels easy or hard depends entirely on your perspective.
Before changing anything, change your thinking
Perspective shapes how events unfold and influences the effort you put into your work. People often say your intention should be good when doing any task, but that comes second. Positive thoughts form the first stage. We need to learn how to benefit even from events that go against us, shaping our outlook so external situations never break our mentality.
Life happens, accidents happen, and many problems arise that we cannot control. The only thing we truly control is our mind. Our mindset is all we have, and if we lose it, we lose everything.
The 1914 fire
Have you heard about Thomas Edison? Of course, we all have. In my childhood, I read the story of the 1914 fire at the Thomas Edison Manufacturing Unit. A massive fire broke out at his factory, and his life’s work vanished in a single night. When his son received the news, he feared his father would be devastated.
However, when he found his father near the fire, he was amazed. Edison stood calmly, watching the flames in amusement. When Edison saw his son, he said:
“Find her. Bring her here. She will never see anything like this as long as she lives.”
The next morning, he stated:
“There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God, we can begin anew.”
Such was the attitude of a person of great stature. They never let the outer world affect their inner world. This is the single lesson we all need to learn from the great figures of history. They possess many nuances in their nature, but one principle remains clear: their inner world dictates their outer world, never the other way around.
